Yavapai Libertarians Gain County Ballot Status

22 October 2003
"Prescott, Arizona - County Recorder Patsy Jenney-Colón recently verified that the Yavapai County Libertarian Party has gained ballot access following a major petition drive.

This will allow Libertarian candidates on the election ballot for partisan Yavapai County offices in the 2004 primary and general elections. Over one thousand Yavapai County voters signed the petition.

The Yavapai County Libertarian Party is recruiting registered voters and working to build a strong political base to participate more actively in County government. While the Arizona State Libertarian Party already holds ballot access for statewide offices, this is the first time Libertarians will have recognition to run for Yavapai County offices. Arizona State statutes require political parties to qualify separately in each county which makes it difficult for newer parties to gain ballot access.

Any resident of Yavapai County interested in running for County office as a Libertarian candidate should contact the Party Chairman at 778-5084 or write to the Yavapai County Libertarian Party at P.O. Box 11122, Prescott, Arizona 86304. Information on the Arizona State Libertarian Party and the Yavapai County affiliate are contained at the Party website, .

The third largest political party in the United States, the Libertarian Party's platform is based on strong support for the US Constitution and the limited Federal powers enumerated therein. Libertarian philosophy calls for a smaller government, individual responsibility, private sector solutions to social issues, limited taxes and free enterprise. Libertarians strongly support Second Amendment firearm rights and a strong national defense but do not advocate interference with other Countries."

For further information, please contact John DeThomas, Yavapai County Libertarian Party Chairman, at (928) 778-5084 or e-mail at jvdethomas@att.net.
